Knaresborough has been included in the 2019 UCI World Championships in Yorkshire. It will host the para-cycling event on Saturday 21st September 2019.
Following a technical review of the original course, the Harrogate circuit has been replaced with a new finale featuring Knaresborough, South Stainley, Ripley, and Killinghall. The finish line will be on West Park, Harrogate.
Yorkshire 2019 CEO Andy Hindley said, 'We are delighted that Knaresborough will play host to the Yorkshire 2019 Para-Cycling International. It will be the biggest day of para-cycling ever held, and I am sure the people of Knaresborough will embrace it, just like they did the Tour de France and Tours de Yorkshire.
There are four groups of riders (blind/visually impaired, people with cerebral palsy, those with locomotor disabilities, and handcyclists). Within those groups are further sub-classifications, based on the competitors' functional capacities.
It seems likely that the para-cycling will be hugely well-supported on the roadside, and will get the September 2019 event off to a roaring start.
